Romans 8 is fire.
How many times I have not accepted fully that we are forgiven and “enough” is insane. Yesterday I was talking to a nurse and she ended up sharing with me about how she has never felt like she is “enough” because of her past. She sees that she is different now but she can’t let go of her past sins. She has trouble accepting her boyfriend’s compliments because he doesn’t know her past and she thinks if he knew he wouldn’t accept her. The whole entire time she was talking I couldn’t help but think about how God sees her and how He FULLY knows her past and fully knows who she is inside and out (Psalm 139) and He loves her no matter what…But as I was sitting there I thought about how it was so easy for me to see how she was forgiven and it made me think why do I think I am an exception?
Why do I think that I should be more and I need to do more for God’s forgiveness and love, isn’t that egocentric to think I should be above this innate sinful nature in us? To think that others are fully forgiven and God doesn’t see them for their sins but I should be above that?
All this to say, I wanted to share Romans 8 because it has such an amazing message about how we have ZERO shame with Christ (Romans 8:1, therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus) and we have the spirit which gives us life and does not enslave us as abandoned children but we are adopted as God’s heirs (Romans 8:17).
Just look at the three headings from Romans 8, We were meant to rejoice in hope and be patient through the earthly pain and sufferings because His spirit lives within us and we are His heirs and He will guide and protect us (psalm 46:1). We were meant to be constant in prayer and constant in praise. Romans 12:12
Life Through the Spirit “the mind governed by the spirit is life and peace” Romans 8:6
Present Suffering and Future Glory “I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.” Romans 8:18
More than Conquerers “What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?” Romans 8:31
Hope this is encouraging this Saturday morning!
